FINDING THE BEST LOCKSMITH SERVICES

When you call a locksmith for help, you’re trusting that technician with a lot. Whether it’s a lockout situation at your business or you locked your keys in the car at 2 a.m., any time you need to call an emergency locksmith, you undoubtedly want to know you’re getting help from a trustworthy source. But, even if it’s not an emergency situation, calling a locksmith for service means giving them access to your home, your business, or your vehicle.

Make sure you’re finding a trustworthy locksmith company. In order to do so, follow these tips:

LOOK FOR LICENSING, ACCREDITATIONS, OR OTHER CREDENTIALS

Every state has different licensing requirements for the locksmithing industry. In some states, every locksmith must pass a certification exam and/or show proof of so many hours apprenticing under a licensed locksmith. In other states, one simply needs to apply for a business permit. In states like Florida, which does not require a specific license to practice, there are other ways to check for legitimacy.

Start by looking for membership with the Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA) or another of the major locksmith associations. Membership is generally only granted after testing and verification that an individual knows their craft, so it’s a good gauge of a locksmith’s commitment. You can also ask for other accreditations, as well as proof of insurance/bonding. Again, these measures show that a locksmith company is committed to providing quality service.

For routine services like replacing a key or popping a lock, it is rare that the equipment is going to be tough to handle. In most instances, this means a reputable locksmith company will be able to provide an estimate for the cost of parts and labor over the phone, including any additional feels for after-hours service or mileage. For something more involved, like installing an access control system, a technician will likely need to walk through the space and get a feel for what is needed; however, even then, most locksmiths will be able to break down pricing for you up front.

Be wary of locksmiths that try to charge a higher price after they arrive at your location. A common scam is claiming that a lock is “too complex,” or something similar, in order to explain the increase in price. If this happens, don’t allow that technician to begin work and search for a different locksmith. Also, be sure you never sign a blank work order.

ASK FOR AN ESTIMATE

CHECK THE REVIEWS

In a time that reviews can be misleading, and reviews platforms allow companies to “buy” negative review removal, it may feel like a waste of time to read online reviews. However, when it comes to the locksmith industry, those reviews can help you sort out the trustworthy companies from the scammers. Start with a trustworthy reviews platform like Google or Top Rated Local; this is a good way to find reviews on verified companies.

Once you find a company that looks promising, give them a call and pay attention to how they answer the phone. If they answer with a generic “locksmith services” or something similar, this may be another warning of a scam. Ask for the company’s legal business name and address; this is a good way to verify that they are a legitimate business and, if you run into issues, you have details to check against a business registry database.

Another good indicator that a locksmith company is on the up-and-up is branding. Of course, this is something you will need to check when a technician shows up in person, but you should start by looking at their website or an online business profile. When the technician arrives, their vehicle should be the first sign of similar branding. At the very least, look for the business name and contact information on the locksmith’s vehicle. That should be the same as the details listed online. Be wary of anyone that shows up in an unmarked vehicle or one simply marked “locksmith.”

When talking to the technician, look for things like a branded hat, uniform shirt, or even a polo shirt with an embroidered logo. Also keep an eye out for branded paperwork, or at least forms with the correct contact information. This is yet another way locksmiths will show that they’re serious about their business.

LOOK FOR BRANDING

ASK FOR IDENTIFICATION

When a locksmith arrives, it’s natural to want some way to verify who they are. Any legitimate locksmith will have no problem showing you proof of licensing, business registration, proof of insurance, membership with a locksmith association, and so on. It’s also a good idea to take note of their name and driver’s license number. If a technician claims to have “forgotten” their proof of credentials, you may want to send them on their way and find a different locksmith service.

At the same time, you should also expect to show your identification. We want to make sure we are keeping you safe, and protecting your property. Identification will show us that you are who we spoke with on the phone, and that you’re allowed to access the property in question. If you’ve just moved into a new home and your address isn’t updated on your license, we may want to see a piece of mail or something else that shows your name and the new address. In lockout situations, we know that you may not be able to get to your identification. In those cases, we’ll need to see that immediately after popping the lock for you.

Any locksmith worth the title will take the time to explain what needs to be done and discuss fees with you before beginning work. Make sure you read that paperwork carefully before you sign, because that signed paperwork is what authorizes us to actually do the work. It also sets the price for what you will pay. Read the paperwork carefully to make sure there are no unexplained fees that make the price jump — an unfortunately common method scammers use.

As you look over the paperwork, this is also a good time to make sure that the work you’ve agreed on is what you’ll be charged for. For instance, be wary of any locksmith that claims they need to drill a lock or require highly specialized (and expensive) tools to complete a simple job like rekeying a lock or unlocking your door. We are trained to work with a huge array of locks, so the instances in which we need to actually drill and ruin a lock are very few. Also, be sure you don’t hand over your credit card for payment until the work is authorized and completed. In our technology-fueled age, be wary of anyone who only accepts cash. Make sure you get an invoice that lists all fees, including those for work, mileage, and any hardware installed.

READ ALL PAPERWORK

ASK AROUND FOR REFERENCES

When it comes to locksmith services, word of mouth is one of the most valuable ways to find a trustworthy service. Ask family and friends who live in the area, so you can be sure you’re being directed to a local service who knows the region. Good locksmiths take the time to build relationships with our customers because we understand how important it is for you to trust the technician/company providing you with locksmith services.

When you find a locksmith company you like, save our contact information! This will help reduce a lot of worry in the event that you ever get locked out of your home or vehicle. Ideally, you won’t need to call us again, but it’s a great safety net in the event of a locksmith emergency. Plus, if you move to a new home, you will already have someone you trust to swing by and rekey the locks and otherwise make sure your new home is secure.

QUICK, EXPERIENCED EMERGENCY

LOCKSMITH SERVICES AROUND DESTIN

No matter what time of the day or night, lockout situations can be highly stressful. Here at Destin Locksmith, we want to make those crazy moments feel a lot less crazy. Whether you’re running late for work and get locked out, or if you lose your keys while out late at night, we will come quickly to get your door unlocked and get you on your way again! We understand that emergencies don’t wait for regular business hours, so our auto locksmith team is available 24/7.

If you’re locked out, here’s what to do:

  • Make sure you and anyone with you is safe!
  • Try doors and windows to see if anything is unlocked. However…
  • Don’t try to break in on your own! This often causes additional, more expensive damage.
  • Call an emergency locksmith. If you don’t have a trusted team, make sure you peruse reviews to find an experienced, local technician.
  • Find a safe place to wait for the technician to arrive, preferably a location from which you can keep an eye on your home/vehicle/business.
  • Ask for identification/credentials when the technician arrives.
  • Clarify fees before they begin working, and get everything in writing.
  • Once you’re unlocked, talk to your locksmith about keyless entry systems or other ways to prevent lockouts in the future!

PROUDLY SERVING DESTIN, Niceville, Fort Walton Beach, PANAMA CITY BEACH & SURROUNDING AREAS

Some days, one unpleasant thing can feel like it sets off a chain reaction of bad luck. When a day starts with your morning alarm failing to go off and a late start can be the start of a “when it rains, it pours” kind of day that leads to everything from a broken shoe to locking your keys in the car. Whether you’re experiencing one little mishap or a day full of frustration, locking your keys in the car doesn’t have to be the awful scenario you imagine. With a knowledgeable and experienced locksmith, you can get back into your car and on your way quickly and safely. But locksmithing isn’t just opening cars and unlocking homes when you’ve had a bit of bad luck. If you’re in the Destin or Panama City Beach areas, here’s what the Destin Locksmithing team is here to help you with:

Trustworthy & Knowledgeable

First and foremost, when you call a local locksmith, you want to be sure you are finding help you can trust. After all, each time you call a locksmith, you’re trusting your safety as well as your vehicle or home’s security to the company you call. Not only does the Destin Locksmithing team have decades of experience in a wide range of locksmith services, we ensure that we keep up on our licenses, insurance, and bonding so you can rest assured that we’re here to help you safely and quickly. Want to be sure? Our technicians will be happy to show you proof when they arrive to help you out.

Auto Locksmith Services

As we mentioned above, locksmithing is more than just popping locks. Our mobile locksmith team is happy to come unlock your vehicle any time, day or night, but we do so much more! Our auto locksmith services include:

  • Roadside assistance when you need it - Get help with unlocking cars, jumping batteries, and helping get you on the go again quickly
  • Making keys of all kinds - No more waiting hours and paying exorbitant rates at the dealership! Our mobile locksmiths can handle everything from duplicating sidewinder keys to repairing or replacing transponder key fobs.
  • Re-keying locks - Just as with your home, sometimes you need to change a lock but you don’t want to replace it. We can re-key your locks without replacing them.
  • Key extraction - Accidents happen. When a key breaks off in the lock, don’t panic; call our mobile locksmith team to get that broken key extracted and duplicated!

Residential Locksmithing

Ensuring your locks are in good condition and installed appropriately is one of the best and easiest ways to protect your home and everything inside. When you move into a new home, call our locksmithing team to get the locks re-keyed. This simple step prevents anyone with an old key from being able to simply unlock your door and walk in, and it doesn’t affect the hardware! We can also ensure that your deadbolts are installed appropriately or swap that standard deadbolt out for a keyless entry deadbolt. With keyless entry, you can ditch those house keys and enter a code you program in order to unlock the door. Bonus: you can change that code as often as you choose! Our locksmith technicians are knowledgeable in home security, so give us a call today to help improve your home’s security.

Business Locksmith Services

Keeping your business secured is just as important as the security for your home. Everything from keyless entry systems to a properly working safe can have a big impact on your business’ security. Our team can help you re-key or install new locks to increase security measures. We can also install, open, and service safes so you can protect your assets. And, if you accidentally lock your keys inside, we can come and open the door for you, just as we would with your home or car.

This isn’t a comprehensive list of services we provide. If it has to do with locks or keys, odds are good we have the knowledge and experience to help you out. Contact our locksmithing team online with questions or to request a quote. If you need emergency locksmith services any time, day or night, don’t hesitate to give us a call! For locksmith services you can trust, call 850-307-5791 in the Destin area or 850-312-3240 in the Panama City Beach area.

LICENSED - BONDED - INSURED

These are just a few of the brands that we offer. We offer several other different brands of home security camera systems and keyless door locks as well. Tell us what you are looking for and most likely we can get it for you. Just give us a call or email!
